Welcome, and thank you for visiting! I’m Bharadwaj Kannan, an Assistant Professor of Finance and Real Estate at the College of Business, Colorado State University.
I received my Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2016, a Master’s degree in Economics from Christ University in 2010, and a Bachelor’s (Honors) degree in Economics from the University of Delhi in 2008.
My research focuses on the intersection of labor and corporate finance. I study how firms respond to labor market dynamics and regulatory shocks—such as layoff announcements, labor laws governing employee mobility, and cybersecurity breaches. Through my research, I aim to deepen our understanding of how corporate policies are shaped by labor market forces, offering insights with broad implications for businesses, policymakers, and investors. My work has been published in the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and is currently under revision at Labour Economics.
I’m also deeply passionate about teaching. I aim to create a classroom environment that is analytical, engaging, and grounded in real-world application. I have taught courses in corporate finance, financial markets, and investments across undergraduate, Master’s, MBA, and executive education programs. My goal as an educator is to help students think critically about financial decision-making and develop tools they can carry into their professional careers.
